Since its launch in 1997, the Global Campaign has been developing a wide and varied range of activities. Demonstration Projects formed an important element in the first years in order to demonstrate the treatment gap that exists and the benefits of establishing correct statistics on treatment gaps in order to improve services and reduce the costs of epilepsy. At national level IBE and ILAE member associations have used the campaign very successfully in their initiatives, while at regional level the Declarations have been the stepping point to increasing awareness about epilepsy and in alerting health ministries of the problems caused by lack of appropriate treatment and care.
As we move forward, we will build on successful activities and use their outcome as the basis for identifying appropriate future endeavours.
