Background / History

World Health Organization

The ILAE/IBE/WHO Global Campaign Against Epilepsy was launched in 1997 with the ambitious aim to bring together three global organisations – the International League Against Epilepsy, representing medical professionals; the International Bureau for Epilepsy, on behalf of people with epilepsy and their families, non-medical professionals and the general public; and the World Health Organization, leading international public health agency – in a joint partnership to address the hidden, neglected but global problems of people with epilepsy.

This objective is reflected in the Campaign title and logo, “Epilepsy: Out of the Shadows”.
